Other players to withdraw are 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, world number one Ashleigh Barty and two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova. Barty also won't defend her FO title.

Vika does have the edge/momentum this time against Vee. She's won a ton of quality matches in a row and came within a eyelash of winning the USO. Granted, it's clay, but still... The women don't tend to specialize.
Yet, I can still see Venus winning this match-up as things with Venus these days seem to have no rhyme or reason.
Either way, definitely looking forward to this match.

Off-topic to this Rome Draw, but pertaining to a player in such, Vika Azarenka:

She took a WC into Strausbourg, which is played the week after Rome and ere RG, a 5th consecutive week of tennis for her. The info (tweet) is in French, but translating such it reveals that she did.

Vika needs to play and win a lot to maintain level.

Naomi will likely skip Paris.

Good start for me with R1 wins for Pavlyuchenkova and Rybakina.
Anisimova won too, and now Mertens has started her R1.

Ostapenko is on her way to another defeat it, seems - just lost the first set.

Andreescu is becoming the queen of withdrawal, so no surprise there. Kvitova not entering a clay event is also not really a loss imo.
And I guess Barty is simply waiting until thee is no Corona-virus anymore (or until tennis comes back to Australia).

Serena injured... well, we are getting used to the pattern of Serena getting in injured after 2-3 events. It has not been different since her pregnancy.

Bad match between Cori' and OJ, both players didn't play well, Cori' winning. Plays Muguruza next, who dismissed a disinterested Sloane today.

Check that.....Venus and Vika's match follows 2 ATP matches. So, it's scheduled to start around 7 a.m. here in the Midwest. I can be awake for that time.

Vee frustrates so much.
