AMANDA, Maria-esque Hype or the Real Deal?

Post by Grossefavourite » Jun Thu 06, 2019 9:37 am

Amanda seems to have a deceptively potent game and she has had some very solid wins to date. She just might have the goods, but you know the hype machine is gearing up for the American teenage blonde of Russian-descent.

Take my advice: look at her game and compare that with how Maria was totally clueless on clay at age 17. There is no comparison.

I just saw a summary of her match vs Halep. Outstanding. Enough variety to keep me pleased. In a way as fun to watch as I did with Justine on clay - an she is not even Belgian.

From a Skan-point-of-view, I should root for Barty. But I'll root for Amanda tomorrow (and saturday?).

The headlines say she 'overpowered' Halep which is quite shocking, very Maria-esque of 2004.

Anisimova has been on the radars for quite sometimes. She wants to be a top player and she is working on it.

The one thing I like about those results is that power players are winning.

This is what I noticed in watching some of her highlights from last year and this year:

"She's pushing the ball really deep. Sometimes you cannot go from there because the ball doesn't bounce," said Halep. "She puts pressure on [your] game. And even if she doesn't hit strong with a lot of power, she hits it very long, with good depth, and it's tough to return the balls."

So now dear Halep, what are you going to do about it?
:) :)

What can anyone do, she hasn't lost a set yet. Barty's variety might confound her, but that's perhaps all. I think nerves will get the better of Konta.
