Svitolina into R3 with a W/O.

Started my day with watching Mertens (vs Parry); good start from Elise with a double break, *3-0.

Mertens wins the first set 6-1 (so did Stephens, who already leads 6-1 2-0).

Mertens broke Parry in her 1st, 2nd and 4th service game, but payed weird in the 3rd service game (won by Parry on love). I was wondering if she did that on purpose.
If Mertens had won than, then it likely would have been a bagel, with Parry starting to serve. But by gifting her one game, Mertens could brake her at 5-1 (to take the set), and is now allowed to start with serving in Set2 (which is always a bit of and advantage).

Moved over to Muguruza vs Larsson (set 2); more than decent win for Garbine. Played it safe without taking too many risks, but still made Larsson run a lot, gave nothing away, and waited for the errors (which eventually came). 6-1 in the second and now R3 between Garbine and Svitolina.

Going to Stephens now. Sloane had - based on the scoreboard - a bit of a meltdown... leading 6-1 3-0, but Tormo now serving for the set (4-5*)

Mertens winning 6-1 6-3 (did not watch Set#2, but based on Set#1 this is a logical outcome).

Stephens winning the TB (and match) 6-1 7-6. If she cuts down on the UE's, so can get far. Really liked her performance in those 10 minutes that I watched (apart from hitting UE's when the court is open for the winner).
Could be a good R16 between her and Garbine if both with their next match.

Kiki Bertens retires during the lst set, down 1-3 (15-40) with an illness of some sort. Physio and doctor were called onto the court after she just sat down w/o telling the Chair at 15-40 in the 4th game. Picking up what I could on the stream she indicated to the physio and doctor that she had no power and her hands were shaking, subsequently resulting in her retiring from the match. Most unfortunate for Kiki for she was a favorite to win this event in some circles. Viktoria moves on....

Indeed, 43 teams take the hit.
Time to feed those players horse meat. And that's no Meldonium.
