It is not the first time that a player withdraws... sometimes it happens in R1, sometimes in R2...R3.
Bad luck happens, there is always the next Skan.

Ps: picking another player is simply no option as the draw has progressed.
I'm in agreement with Grav'. The Skanner takes the hit if a player withdraws after the tourney begins and you don't get the option of replacing that player with a LL. Your team has just crashed for this Skan. Next Skan.....

I'm a little ticked with the timing of this by Petra K, for she withdrew from Rome with the issue and, apparently has had the issue for some time, including her practice time during the week in Paris. Yet, she waits 'til the day of her lst match to get an MRI, discovering the small tear in her left forearm, necessitating her withdrawal, how lame is that?

Btw, the young, promising teen for the men, Felix AA, withdrew and 7 Skanners have taken the hit. That's the way it goes sometimes.....

It's been a rough R1 for a lot of teams; so far 24 losses in WTA (Kvitova taking most with 13), and 18 in ATP.

And R1 is not even completed. How many complete teams will get into R2? I have Halep and Zverev in action.

I am surprised that I am the only one with the #4,5,6 in ATP (Thiem, Zverev, Tsitsipas); the three most promising next-generation guys, two of them beating Nadal on clay this year. Maybe I will regret having Zverev later today, but I really wanted both Thiem and Tsitsipas, and did not want to pick a lower-ranked guy to complete my ATP-players.

We reasoned out years ago not to award LL's to contestants in place of withdrawing players. Doing so could well backfire, with a LL losing badly in the first round and racking up considerable negative points and making the situation even worse for the contestant.

But it makes no sense to score a Withdrawal with the artifical score 0-1 0-1 and penalizing the contestant as a result. There is no basis for the number of points that the contestant is penalized with by virtue of scoring it arbitrarily that way.

I see this has been corrected with a new scoring protocol for WO's. Thanks for doing that!

I almost had the lowest position for a fully intact team (69, if I recall correctly); there was one complete team with that had one point less...

Not having Nadal (and Nadal getting qualifiers for R1 and R2) is hurting me for the moment... but when Nadal is out, I'll overtake them all :-)

I will spare you the effort: I went full-on next generation: #4,5,6 (Thiem, Zverev, Tsitsipas).

Zverev gave me a scare yesterday, and so did Tsitsipas today.

Now I need to support Goffin in R3 on friday (vs Nadal). Goffin has been really good in R1 and R2, and Nadal has not been tested yet, so who knows.

Good team, Zverev is your weakest link. Rafa has not been tested yet, Goffin might push him to a TB, that's about it.

Andreescu withdraws.
9 teams bite the dust.
Sophia Kenin moves on to potentially face Serena.
