One contestant had both Bencic and Venus. That's got to be either completely crazy or totally brilliant. Time will tell!!!

and listen with deep emotion,
but not with the whining, the pleas of the coward;
listen-your final pleasure-to the voices,
to the exquisite music of that strange procession

I am about to lose the Skan today.... My team is actually not well-constructed. I have 5 names that many people have, so I depend on a single "uncommon" team-member to bring home the Skan... and that happend to be Pouille.. wh ois on the brink of defeat.

I already accepted my loss when Pouille was trailing 4-6 4-6 6-6 (1-4 in the TB, two mini-breaks down)
But then Lucas stepped up and won six points in a row (four on Bemelmans' serve) and won the third set!
So I am still alive for at least one set :-)

(Bemelmans playing well so far, so I need a bit of a miracle - but who knows).

I initially wanted a team full of fave's, but my 4 WTA-players (Bencic, Kasatkina, Ostapenko, Svitolina) were all in the same half (all in the next round, by the way). And Goffin meeting Federer in the QF was too much of a risk- so I replaced Goffin by Dimitrov).
Maybe in the next slam :-)

My crap-team still alive... but for how long?
Pouile 1-4 0-30 (on own serve) down in the fourth (so basically 6 ^points away from defeat), but back on serve *3-4

I looked and there is one team who also has Svitolina, Wozniacki, Kerber, fEderer and Dimitrov.
But the other team has Kyrgios who is into R2 comfortably.
So I can only overtake that team if Pouille does better than Kyrgios...

I really let myself down with my team this time. I should have picked at least one other player (WTA) who was in no other team (or only picked by a very few).

aaaandd... Pouille is out... oh well, at least he had the decency to lose against a belgian...

So now I am not forced to support Wozniacki anymore :-)
(and start thinking about the French Open Skan ...)

You only lost 1 player. on day 1. #ed_op#br#ed_cl#I lost 2: one ATP, one WTA.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#Losing ATP player early is not a surprise for me. I am used to it. But losing this WTA player was a shock. #ed_op#br#ed_cl#Hope the remaining 4 players go as deep as possible. #ed_op#br#ed_cl#Otherwise, I could be elected Mayor of District RU80 this Aussie season. :) :) ;)#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

It is winning or nothing for me. And there is now one team that I cannot surpass anymore as it contains all my 5 remaining members + an outstanding Kyrgios who is already in R2.

I did get a smile on my face when I read Terrastar’s team name “I have to win this at least once” and then saw Venus and Coco in his team...,

Round 1 is in the bag. Highlights:

*Rex' "The Surprise" has a slim 1-point lead [no surprise there]
*56 of 91 teams are fully intact
*Nadal pickers have done extremely well
*1 team made the top 10 with only 5 players left [MattB123]
*4 teams are in the bottom tier fully intact [ouch]
