We are still searching for #24
23 appears to be it. Serena had a real good chance here after the draw fell completely apart and it'll have to fall apart in order for Serena to get 24, because she is definitely not a threat, nor playing like she's in contention for another Slam title. The only top-10 player left in the draw is Iga after Kenin lost today. What more could Serena want than to have what's left in the bottom half to reach this Slam final? Pavly's run is a fluke, Badosa and Zidansek are just baseliners, but can hit strong from the baseline and could cause Serena trouble with her power and serve showing decline. Yet, she still had a good shot with what's left in the draw, especially after Vika lost earlier to Anastasia. This was her moment to reach another Slam final for a 39 year old player in her 40th year of birth, but she gave it up to an inconsistent 21 year old and blew 2 crucial net points to tie 4-all in the lst set, which could have changed her fortunes, as you duly noted. Loopy forehands, a declining serve and mediocre-to-poor net play does not suggest Slam title for her at this point. This French was, imo, her last chance to reach another Slam final for her age and she didn't take advantage of it. Her presser.....c'mon.......'a point here or there' and it could've been a different outcome'.....is merely self-delusion. Serena's not scheduled for any grass warm-ups prior to Wimby beginning at the end of this month, tho' she can always request and be granted a WC to any event. You think she has a shot at Wimby with no grass warm-ups?

First-time-Serena jitters for the 21 year old Rybakina, tho' she's still inconsistent regardless of this match with Serena. Yet, match-wise she again was dictating the rallies for the most part with her usual errors to keep the match close for Serena.

The only top-10 player left in the draw is Iga
Iga is not even a top-10 players yet. She is still carrying her 2000 points from last year's French Open. Without these points, she'd ranked outside the top-20>
Rybakina was losing confidence after that break back for 3-4. Her first serve was not landing. And she was losing the rallies. Serena had her cornered and doubting. Then gifted her 2 huge UE..
But even with those ugly 2 HUGE errors to let the girl back in game, she still had her chances in the 2nd set. when Serena was not spraying and stayed in the rallied, Rybakina lost the points, unlike in the first set.

I was thinking 'girl, don't try to hit winners on the serve. You are winning the rallies. So return the serve in play and be steady". It worked when she did. But for some reason, she kept gifting return even on 2nd serve. :) :)

You are not playing Osaka, the most dangerous girl out there, and you are in a hurry gifting UE??? why???
Great opportunity missed indeed.

Iga is currently ranked 9th officially and in "live" rankings. So, she's in the top-10 for now pending her match with Kostyuk in an hour. From what's left in the draw I think she can repeat the French, which would be a nice achievement for the just-turned 20 year old.

just saying the ranking is wrong. she's still carrying the 2000 points from last year's french Open. I heard those points will come off in October.
Watching her beat Kostyuk.. She is very efficient.. Doesn't waste opportunities. Doesn't spray. Nice to see.
Kostyuk, on the other hand, missed a few easy points.. Can't do that.

for someone that has not watched tennis this last 12 months, this qf/sf draw looks like it's for a WTA TierXI event. So much has changed lately.

Serena missed a great opportunity, again, against Ry. That match was so winnable.

Coco screwed up. She would've been a favorite against Sakkari. Oh well, it's a massive learning experience.

Didn't see Iga repeating as Champ. It's the WTA after all. Some people were calling her the female Nadal. Dreamers.
