See, Monfils losing a must-win match very easily. No surprise. He really lacks mental strength and a killer's instinct which I've feared for sometime now. This is the primary reason he's failed to live up to promise.

Anybody can bash the balls, indeed. But power players are not ball bashers. It takes proper calibration, accuracy, control and focus to hit the ball hard, sometimes on the run, while keeping it in play and the opponent glued to the ground because the ball passes her because she can move.
Exactly.
And that is why Serena was/is the only consistent power player in the top10 for the last decade.

I have not seen another, single power player who actually has the skills you describe.... yeah, they seem to have it in a match.... or in an event... but in the 5 events after that, they lose in R1...

So all the Muchova's, Gavrilova's, and others... their power is OK, but the rest is not there. Just give me Kastatina, Bencic, Barty, Halep, Svitolina, Rybakina.

Monfils pushes 90% of the time. His shots can be slower than Errani's. Despite the fact that he can hit big shots and end the points, he rarely does. The few times I watched him, I was like "WTF? .. stop pushing".

Svitolina in the final. too bad that Bencic got injured, but she proved that she deserved her spot here.
Svitolina: 15 aces on a slow surface... and she had already a fair amount of aces prior to the Belinda-injury. But you will always have people who still think that she is the same teenager of 5-6 years ago with limited power :-)

It's too bad BB is injured again. Svitolina's game has definitely improved and this slow HC suits her game even more. I am not a fan but I recognize :) .
Will we see BB stay healthy in 2020 and win her maiden slam? I hope so.

Such a shame = no sound for wta matches -
making watching untenable

4/8 wta players at yec retired and/or injured -
this is a problem -
surely they need to re-think issues such as scheduling
