AO Monday, Day 1 OOP.....Re: AO Monday, Day 1 OOP.....Rafa and Roger open on Laver with Roger (again) getting prime time Melbourne. Caroline precedes Roger in the Night session. Hercog v Angie could be interesting, if Pelona is not slicing her backhand which doesn't compliment her more-than-decent forehand and nice serve. But, I don't see a change for Pelona at this point in her career and Angie should prevail. Andy is playing Agut on the Melbourne court and is a nice match-up, but this match is significant due to Andy's announcement that he's retiring from the game this year due to constant pain in his hip stemming from hip surgery that he's not able to tolerate. Since this is his last Melbourne he wants to give this a shot. He intends to officially retire later at Wimby this year, hip permitting. Sad ending to a great career, complimenting the men's big Four in an o/s era for the men's game. All the Best.... Petra K's on the docket, as well as Barty and De Minaur after playing the respective finals this morning with Petra cramping at the end of her title match, which went over 2 1/2 hours in heat. Playing Ribby, who uses the dropper quite a bit, may be a big challenge for Petra given her physical condition and the quick turnaround after Sydney. I think the TD for the event should have given all 3 an extra day to start their lst rounder, given the proximity of their completed matches. Prime match for a lst rd upset. My tennis viewing will be as follows: Petra Martic v Watson at 6 p.m. tomorrow here in the Midwest, then Sloane v Taylor Ostapenko v Sakkari Bencic v Siniakova Yafan Wang v Perez, a look-see at some point. Other matches of interest: Berdych v Edmund Monfils v Dzumhur Anisimova v Niculescu Cilic v Tomic Re: AO Monday, Day 1 OOP.....Thanks for the nice summary. Kvitova will indeed have a tough match... Very few people managed to win Sydney and the AO in the same year; only Azarenka and Henin managed that double in the last 20 years...
