Also.....in an interview with Venus, Rafael, Naomi and Nick she indicates that she's not sure if she'll retire, leaving the door open to staying. However, for me she has to get into better shape, like Venus. After she gets into better shape but her ground strokes remain loopy, landing near the service line and her movement remains slow, coupled with eating bread in sets, then call it a day.

If they officially retire, then it invokes other issues, primarily doping. If you officially retire, then you're free from doping controls. If you then wish to unretire, if memory serves, you can't play for at least a year, while making yourself available for doping controls during that time.
