Reason: he recently announced that he suffers from the Muller-Weiss syndrome, a degenerative foot condition that only gets worse with no cure. He actually plays/lives with constant pain, and now said he rather gets a new foot than winning Roland Garros. So if he wins #22, will he end on a high note? Re: 2022 French Open Main Draw Gents....He looked and sounded very emotional after his match… it did sound like a goodbye from a man in semi-denial. From the internet: Mueller-Weiss disease is a rarely diagnosed deformity where the navicular bone undergoes spontaneous osteonecrosis in adults. Until now, there is no widely accepted operative treatment for this unusual disease. Afterwards he said that he cannot and will not play like this anymore… so I think he totally numbed his foot in order to have a shot at #14. But I would not be surprised if we - like last year - do not see him a a court anymore this season.
