Re:WTA Dubai Draw and ResultsLove these contracted premier events where the competition is tight from the jump. Every player has a significant, meaningful opponent in the lst round. Surprised, tho', by Naomi getting a WC into the maindraw while Stosur and Giorgi for two are playing qualies. Further, the prize money was suddenly increased from 700k to 2.6 mil., making for a nice chunk of change for the finalists. Good to see the tourney director increase the prize money for this event, where it used to be. Glad to see, as well, that most of the top-10 have committed to play such, where in the past they gave it a pass. Yet, I don't think Petra K. will play, especially if she wins Doha for she looks exhausted after playing worthless Fed Cup in the prior week and winning St. Pete' prior to that. In addition, she doesn't have a bye in Dubai. However, if she elects to give it a go, it's all good. Of note for me is Belinda Bencic. Puzzled by her absence from Doha as well as Dubai. Nevertheless, looking forward to it. Last edited by rex on Feb Sat 17, 2018 1:44 pm, edited 1 time in total. Kasatkina totally in control of Aggie's service games... broke her 6 times in 10 service games, and had BPs in others. The only reason that this match is not yet in the bag is that she plays too risky at times and gifts to points to Aggie. When giving 85% is enough to hit the winner, don't try to go for 95% ; UE's result from that. 7-5 4-4, Aggie to serve. "Never argue with an idiot - they take you down to their level and then beat you on experience" "Don't wrestle with a pig: you both get dirty, but the pig actually likes it" Again going for too much: terrible drop from Aggie, Darya at the net, the whole court open and Darya goes for a CC drive-volley full power, out....#ed_op#br#ed_cl#instead of another BP, it is game point for Aggie.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Edit (deuce again)#ed_op#br#ed_cl# Last edited by Graveller on Feb Mon 19, 2018 7:57 am, edited 1 time in total. "Never argue with an idiot - they take you down to their level and then beat you on experience" "Don't wrestle with a pig: you both get dirty, but the pig actually likes it" Breaking Aggie 7 times, but only winning 7-5 6-4.... She almost fell into the trap of becoming too adventurous because Aggie is not gifting a lot. It puts the mind of the opponent into a state of having to play on the limit. And even when the court is open, then players keep that attitude, missing easy points making them too difficult. Kvitova even lost a set because of it last week.
