Completely lopsided grouping. What's the point?

The worse matchup in the White group is more interesting than the best matchup in the Red group.

I like the groups: matches will be different within the groups, and then the SF will mix both styles...

Very hard to pick the four names that will advance into the SF.

I would say Halep, Svitolina, Venus and Ostapenko.

The groups seem VERY unbalanced to me. The biggest hitters are in the same group (White Group). All of the grand slams are there too. 3 No. 1s.

"I think my group is more aggressive style players in the group and the other one is more defending," Pliskova said. "I just like to play better these players.

"I start with Venus tomorrow, so I beat her once from match point and once I lost very close match. This one is open."

Very solid Halep with great fighting spirit...

A break up in the second set: 6-4 2-1...
Then 0-40 down on serve, but wins 5 points in a row... 6-4 3-1...
Ten down 40-0 (on Garcia serve... guess what, she wins the game again... 6-4 4-1

And now a love game to make it 6-4 5-1.. one more game needed for Simona

When she was 0-40 down on own serve, it was due to two DFs...so it was not really Garcia playing like a world beater.....

So far I am
a) very impressed with Wozniacki: her low UE-game combined with a rather aggressive game and associated winners
b) very disappointed in a very passive Svitolina

Caro leading 6-2 3-0 and a well-deserved lead

Edit: this is a Caroline that I could support a lot: and 've seen it a few times that she can play like that. But I do start to think that somehow she cannot bring that game when an opponent pushes her into defense. Some players step up when that happens; Caro seems to fall back on a "safe" pushing mode when that happens.

Wozniacki - Svitolina 6-2 6-0...

No discussion: the (far) better player won here.
And with that scoreline, she stands with one leg into the SF.

Based on today, both Halep and Wozniacki were in a different category.

Caroline might not be a power player but she has many admirable qualities and has consistently played on a very high, professional level for many years. I'm very curious how she keeps the ball in play for so long, even when tired. This should be applauded.

been travelling.. no much time to watch any of the matches. Will catch up later.
Good for Halep.
Now Garcia, can you regroup and send the other 2 ladies home? Smile

@ Ace2Ace:

Garcia could beat Svitolina, but no way that she beats Woz if the latter plays like today...
