.... Still shocked that Wang defeated Sloane 6-2 6-2
This is not out of the blue. Wang destroyed Sloane the last time they played in Australia. It's a match-up issue... Sloane pushes the balls nicely in the middle of the court. Wang strikes the ball pretty well when she is well positioned behind it. Same match in Australia. Girls who play "safe tennis' like Kasatkina and Sloane will always have problem with Wang. I thought Wang's chances of beating Sloane again were pretty high. Sloane can be very dangerous if she elects to use her power shots..
I think winning that slam was bad for her mentality. Why change a game when it's working and getting slam? She will have no desire to add power and take the risk of making UEs.

Keys is like Crawford. They just close their eyes and go full force, even when they don't have to.

Kerber can't beat anyone unless the opponent gives her loads of unforced errors.. Because she is waiting for the court to open up before she can finally safely put the ball away. That type of player will win an entire set hitting just 3 or 4 winners, her basket of points coming from the opponent's UEs. But what if you face someone who is not waiting and not giving you loads of errors? Your goose is cooked.

Konta is losing what was making her tough. Her deadly 2nd serve's gone and the ground stroke has become very ITF. The confidence is low. Not sure what's going on in her private life but she is not the same girl we've been watching the last 2 years.. Whatever's going on could push her slowly out of the top-50 soon. Hope she gets back to her old confident self.

Kasatkina demolished Halep :-)

You can't demolish Halep by playing like a "pusher"... and her "ATP-FH" today was anything but pushing....

And her peak period will only start in 2-3 years... keep improving, Daria, you are getting there :-)

Kasatkina is good when she is not pushing. Her problem for me is that she likes pushing. She's got the same problem Sloane has. Both can beat anyone if they don't sit back and push.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#Last night I watched the 2nd set of Sloane's match.. The way Sloane played in that last game at 5-2, that's the way she should play tennis. She had Wang in a corner, hitting backhand winners, forehand winners, finishing off points. That last game lasted more than the previous 4 games. And I was wondering why Sloane doesn't play that kind of tennis. There is no way she would have lost to Wang, had she used her power throughout the match. It was a bit too late to do it at 5-2 in the 2nd set after losing the first set 6-2.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Not surprised Kasat destroyed Halep. When Halep stands 10 feets behind the baseline and pushes, she is anybody's game. I don't like pushers...or let's say, I don't like when a player is pushing. I don't find it exciting. :)#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

Just read Kasatkina was striking, not looping balls in play.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#That's a winning formula. Will check the video on youtube tonight.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#
Dashka finally played the match#ed_op#b#ed_cl# we had been expecting for 2 years#ed_op#/b#ed_cl#.#ed_op#img src="http://imgsrv2.tennisuniverse.com/wtawo ... erical.gif" alt="" title="Hysterical" class="inlineimg" border="0"#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#This lost against Kaia at the USO was the best thing that happened to her to understand that #ed_op#b#ed_cl#she must be agressive#ed_op#/b#ed_cl#, she really showed improvement since the start of the asian swing.#ed_op#img src="http://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/cheer.gif" alt="" title="cheer" class="inlineimg" border="0"#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Now can she repeat that kind of performance, that the next step.
...Still a really good match from Kasatkina, she can be entertaining #ed_op#b#ed_cl#when she decides to go for it more and not just wait for the opponent to miss#ed_op#/b#ed_cl#. .....

Hoping that Muguruza wins her match..... then there are four players left that i like to watch:
Kasatkina, Ostapenko, Muguruza and Barty.

Woz out too... it's been a tough start for seeded players :-)
