How ironic, if Pam Shriver is correct, Maria could help Venus become #1 by defeating
Halep, granted Venus win the title(and some other scenarios play out in Venus' favor).

I think folks have hatred for Maria, aside from the doping, because she's just not a nice person. She's not very friendly to the other wta players and just about every player in the locker room has said so. Now you add trying to gain an unfair advantage to that along with her sense of entitlement and you can see why there is this feeling about her. Except to her devoted fans of course who would still love her even if she were to walk down 5th Ave and shoot someone.

I'm not her biggest fan but what I don't like is if serena was in her place, almost everyone will react dufferently

I like halep... I don't think it's fair on her to play Maria in R1 while others enjoy an easy ride... I mean even if she had made it to QF she could have got to #1 which looks unlikely if she loses now

A few years ago when I was living in Europe, I'd see Maria and Dinara at the start of a 3rd set or tie-breaker, sip from a little black bottle they hid in white towels, and when the camera pans them, they hid it behind their backs, shooing the cameraperson away.
