New Haven....

Post by rex » Aug Mon 21, 2017 8:43 pm

Well, this event quickly deteriorated with Petra losing and players opting out of playing the event. There's nothing left to keep me interested for this beautiful venue by court. Love the main court here, seating is just right, imo, the best court in the States, which includes IW and wish that it would replace Cincy and leave Cincy for the men and move it up a week, so that everyone has a week off prior to NY. Yet, the local population (New Haven) isn't enough to support a premier mandatory event, tho' it's only an hour and a half drive from NYC and New Yorkers in the metropolitan area can make the trip. Oh well....one can dream......

Yup... I agree there shouldn't be a WTA event the week before slams. #ed_op#br#ed_cl#Only IFS girls should have the entire week to showcase their skills before the slams. :)#ed_op#br#ed_cl#Players who qualify for the slam Main Draw should not be allow to enter either. Most of them just show up to collect a paycheck anyway. The minute the match gets tough, they let go and rush to get out of there before they get injured.

Another idea would be to pair Cinci with New Haven, like they do for Montreal and Toronto.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#Men play Cinci while women are in New Haven. Then the following year it's the other way around.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#That gives everyone a week off before the US Open.

Love getting the players' take on themselves and on their opponents.
_______________

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska survived a second-set comeback bid from Eugenie Bouchard to advance to the quarterfinals of the Connecticut Open on Tuesday.

The 10th-ranked Radwanska, who won the title in New Haven last year, defeated Bouchard 6-3, 7-5 in 1 hour, 45 minutes. The Polish veteran is 4-0 in her career against the Canadian, who needed a wild card to enter the tournament.

Bouchard fought off two match points but was broken while serving to force a tiebreak.

"I expected this kind of match," Radwanska said. "I think she seems better now than a few months ago, playing more consistent.

"I'm feeling much better than in the beginning of the year. I'm not struggling with my health anymore so I feel strong. I feel better and more confident on court as well so that is helping."
