Day 4....Wimby

Post by rex » Jul Wed 05, 2017 7:36 pm

http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/scores/s ... index.html

Ernie G v JMDP holds my interest, then

Petra M. v Allertova

Novak and Roger are on the docket, as well, but their opponents are not saying much.

Light day of tennis, respecting the competition for my tastes.

You never know which match will become outstanding.

I'll try to see some of the belgians (Yanina vs Muguruza and Flipkens vs Kerber), and my highlight of the day in WTA is Kasatkina vs Kontaveit.

Chances are that all three are played at the same time.
Rain/thunderstorms could affect the schedule: bad weather expected where I live due to the heat and that is 'only' 150 miles from London...

Agreed, one never knows when a match will become o/s. Yet, outside of watching faves, how would one know, save for browsing and discovering a match by mere happenstance, like Gavrilova's match with Lucie at Birmingham. Just happened to tune in and watch a couple of games, then, suddenly it mushroomed into one of best matches of the year. Indeed it does happen.

Off-topic:

I see another gent retired at the start of today's schedule: Darcis moved along in his match with Ferrer. That makes 8 gents having retired at Wimby thus far.

Isner should be banned from tennis.
those 7-6 6-7 7-6 6-7 7-6 6-7 7-6 6-7 are ridiculous.

Great match between Ernie G. and DP, Ernie up 2 sets by 6-4 scores. Haven't seen Ernests play tennis like this in ages. His mom and dad are in the house, as well as his home girl, J'la Ostapenko, offset by a 20 min delay as 2 attendees suffered heat-related issues during the 2nd set.

This match is a match of serves, droppers by Ernests, primarily, slices and 2 excellent lobs by Ernests over the towering DP for points. Still wondering if Ernests can continue to play like this. 1-all in the 3rd. Quality is high......

Ernests with the break, up 2-1. The way he's playing on serve, it looks like he can hold to win. Yet, that remains to be seen.

Radwanska starting a come-back vs McHale? She just got extremely lucky.
Lost the first set, 5-5 in the second and 15-40 behind on own serve... then she hits the net-cord... and ball still lands on the other side and wrong-foots McHale...

Instead of McHale serving for the match, it is now McHale serving to stay in the set....

That's why he'll never win a GS. He's a victim of the French system. Had he been born and trained in the USA, for example, he would've won 10 GS by now.

On Wimbledon.Com:

No fan of grass, but a winner anyway

Gael Monfils: "The first set was a tough battle but I think I was pretty soild. He played great and showed a good fight today. I have a couple of issues [with the knee] but I'll fix it with my team. I'm not a big fan [of the grass]. Sorry!"
