Zhuhai - mini-YEC

#ed_op#div#ed_cl#Missed the two first matches, but still Kasatkina to watch later today.#ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl#Sabalenka and Mertens the first two winners of the day. Both in straight sets, and especially Mertens with a strong result (12-4 in games).#ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl#She still has to deal with Goerges in her group.#ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl#Sabalenka winning vs Barty is not a bad result too for her.#ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl#My 4 faves for the SF are Kasatkina, Sabalanka, Mertens and Muguruza (weird to see her name in this event, and not at the YEC)#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl#

What a struggle for Kasatkina... how to win a match with no serve....#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Despite winning easily in set 1 (6-1), Wang lifted up her game after that and was totally over Darya in set 2....#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#And Set 3... pfff... from 1-1 onwards, there were nine consecutive breaks... Darya with no serve, but still breaking Wang 5 times! #ed_op#br#ed_cl#If Darya only had a serve like Wang. In the rallies, Darya easily matches the power of Wang, managed to mix it up much better than Wang in the rallies. and that made the difference in the end. #ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Dehaes knows what to work on: 1st serves <100 km/h, and 9 DFs is not good at all (with this fave, it feels like Henin all over again in the serve-department).#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Wang's game is still missing something for me. For me, it it too much hard and deep over the middle of the net (depending on where she stands, it is a straight ball to the middle or a crosscourt shot). Not enough variety, and when forced to play over the higher part of the net, an UE is never far away (at least, it felt like that). #ed_op#br#ed_cl#But the way she moves to the net on short balls is nice to see. Seeing her evolve will be interesting.

Kontaveit wins in 3 sets vs Goerges...

After losing the second set, Kontaveit was eliminated from the event: . If Goerges wins in straight sets, Julia is through. Any other result Mertens win, or Mertens losing in 3), Elise is through.

Next is Kasatkina; if she loses in straight sets, she is out (similar situation as Kontaveit: a win in 3, and a loss in 2). If she loses in three, she has to hope that Keys vs Wang goes to 3 too.
If Daria wins, she is in the SF, and the last match between Keys and Wang would be pointless.

Keys - Kasatkina: 6-2 4-3*#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Rooting for Kasatkina, but on the other hand, if she loses today, she likely will not be in the YE top10... and as top10 player have more obligations, maybe ending #11 is not so bad after all...

Keys wins 6-2 6-4.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Kasatkina got better in the match towards the end, but too late.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Cannot understand the scheduling in Zhuhai... One group has not yet started, and two players (Kontaveit & Kasatkina) have completed their both matches (and are both out, despite winning one). And to schedule Kasatkina 19 hours after an exhausting RR1 match? It is obvious that they wanted Wang well-rested before her second match. #ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#So rooting for Keys to whip Wang in their last match. And Darya can now rest a few weeks, and then practice on her serve; that is her main weakness and needs fixing. If not, she will have a tough time in staying/getting into the top10.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#If either Sabalenka, Mertens, Keys, Sevastova or Goerges win this event, Darya avoids the top10-obligations. Probably too if one of them reaches the final. But if we end up with a final Muguruza - Wang, for instance, she likely keeps her top10...

With Keys withdrawing, is seems that Kasatkina ends the year into the Top10 :-)

So Barty wins mini-Zhuhai; Want is a decent player, but the only reason that she in this final, was because injured Keys gifted her the match in the RR - making her 2nd in the group instead of Kasatkina who defeated her. on tuesday.

So time for our WTA players to take a break, and then start working on their weaknesses in december.
