Article:#ed_op#br#ed_cl#Serena Williams was fined $17,000 for three code violations during Saturday’s U.S. Open final that caused the tennis player to be penalized a game when she criticized the chair umpire for a controversial call and labeled him a “thief.” #ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Williams suffered a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Naomi Osaka, who became the tournament’s first female Japanese champion. The match had been overshadowed by the tense confrontation between the 36-year-old tennis player and chair umpire Carlos Ramos.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#The tournament referee's office announced Sunday it docked Williams $10,000 for "verbal abuse" of Ramos, $4,000 for being warned for coaching and $3,000 for breaking her racket.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl#The money comes out of her prize money of $1.85 million as the runner-up. #ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl#....#ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl#....#ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl#Under Article III, Section P, "verbal abuse" is defined as "a statement

$17,000? That was very nice. She was fined $80,000 in one of these incidents.
Girl, speak your mind and get back to tennis. No need to berate a ref at each change-over.
Let's try #24 at the Aussie Open.

My last post about this.

No doubt Serena needs to temper her emotions, but believe many have an issue with the application of the rules. Either you enforce it equitably for all or not at all.

Serena really needs to check her ego and attitude. She's too old and been through #ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl#this too many times not to know better. #ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Congrats to Naomi! Fantastic play and mental focus!

Before Serena Williams even said it herself, I was thinking it’s always at the US Open. Why do you think that is people? She hasn’t had this problem at the other majors, but in her own country when others get away with just as much. Why wasn’t Naomi penalized for Sasha coaching? Why was she not pentalized for throwing her racquet during the match? Or do you have to break it(I’m curious on this one)? If This same thing happened were a man it would not be an issue.

And Serena is an emotional person so if it is going to boil over somewhere, then US Open is the most likely place for it to happen.#ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl#
