It must be confronted. She choked against Vinci, Capriati and Stosur, and to some extent, against Clijsters. Did she bottle it, as the Brits say, or just played badly?

I thought "choke" was used when a basically won the match but let it slip between her fingers.
Serena was never close of winning this match. So how can you talk about choking?

Her net play was a disaster, blew tons of volleys there at significant moments in the match. Yet, she reached the finals after not playing many tourneys this year and, at her age, that's a significant achievement.

Lastly, she's my preliminary pick to win the USO and I will be more sure after she plays San Jose and either or both the Rogers' and Cincy, as the Tour shifts to North America and hardcourts after playing on worn-out, treacherous-footing grass.....

@ Ace2Ace:

Choking can cause under-performance from the start from which it's difficult to recover.

Serena's nerves got the best of her again.
She never showed up for this final. Maybe her friend Meghan should not have been there. lol lol

When she said before the final that she was 'free' and 'had nothing to lose' and could just 'enjoy the moment,' I knew right there the emotions were building up.

BTW, the WTA website says Serena has played 8 events. What are these 8 events?

LOL LOL .. that's WTA counting mandatory events. It's silly.
We all know she played:
Indian Wells
Miami,
French Open
and Wimbledon.

The rest is WTA junk stats.
