Netherlands...maindraw...Re:Netherlands...maindraw...Viktoria gets the winner of Lottner v Mertens. I like Lottner a lot and I can't believe she hasn't cracked the top-100 at age 21. She has top-50 talent and game, but is on the too thin side for my tastes. I believe Viktoria can handle Mertens. Lottner is a question mark for me, tho' ranked 139th, which I don't go by once I've seen the player's game. Hope the match isn't at 4 or 5 a.m.., for I duly want to witness both the Lottner/Merten's match and either's subsequent match with Viktoria. Her arm action from either side is what I'm impressed with. It's very fluid and dynamic, can light you up from the baseline, in addition to coming forward often on approach shots or deep balls, and volleying at the net. Moves quite well at 6'1, but the scrawniness is what I don't like. With more weight on her body, putting power in her groundstrokes, she can do some damage on this Tour. Yet, there is some sloppiness that she can grow out of, plus having self-belief that I think she's lacking. Love watching her play. I'm really hoping Lottner prevails, for I want to see Viktoria and Antonia match-up..... Last edited by rex on Jun Thu 14, 2018 4:40 pm, edited 3 times in total. Lottner sometimes forgets to come forwards to finish points. I don't know why. When she plays that dynamic, mobile tennis, she is pretty efficient. It's as if she doesn't trust her best game enough. This is where a good coach can make a huge difference. Last edited by Ace2Ace on Jun Wed 13, 2018 1:15 pm, edited 1 time in total. Re:Netherlands...maindraw...Well...all players have lapses. It's just you don't want to have those recurring lapses that can cost one a match. Antonia is just 21 and hasn't done much. Yet, the more she plays, the more habit-forming it will be for her to naturally react and execute on short balls, while point-constructing on her offensive end that she does well. She does a lot of good things, while still being in developmental mode....#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#The way she plays tennis one can tell she's been coached, for she just doesn't stay rooted to the baseline like Naomi, Sloane and Simona to name a few. Her game has a lot of creativity. Yet, remain perplexed that she hasn't cracked the top-100 with what she has. Will follow her more closely to understand why....love her game. Kuzmova, ranked #122, should have won in 2 straight sets. She hit a couple a crucial points back to Kasatkina instead of hitting the open court to the balls away.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mt7jx3SbWe0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen="" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0"#ed_cl##ed_op#/iframe#ed_cl# Last edited by Ace2Ace on Jun Wed 13, 2018 7:54 pm, edited 6 times in total. Re:Netherlands...maindraw...The suspension of their match due to rain today has caused the winner of Lottner/Mertens to play 2 matches tomorrow. http://wtafiles.wtatennis.com/pdf/draws/2018/822/OP.pdf Last edited by rex on Jun Thu 14, 2018 4:47 pm, edited 1 time in total. |
