"I've had issues with the right pectoral muscle to the point where I can't serve," said the 36-year-old.

"I'll have a scan. I won't know about Wimbledon until I get the results."

"I'm beyond disappointed," Williams said. "I gave up so much, from time with my daughter to time with my family. I put everything on the court. ... So it's really difficult to be in this situation."

Williams, who said she started feeling the issue during her last match, will get an MRI on Tuesday.

Then why did she not withdraw from doubles yesterday if she was feeling it after last match?
Or was the doubles match the last match she was talking about?

Rather giving up than risking that Maria "improves" the H2H from 19-2 to 19-3....

They really dislike each other, it seems

"Don't wrestle with a pig: you both get dirty, but the pig actually likes it"

IMHO, she was not about to let Maria possibly beat her if not 100%.

A friend who is a huge Serena fan watched the doubles yesterday and said he
saw no wincing or nursing. He feels this is suspect to say the least.

Did you see the doubles? They were a point away from going down 5-0 in the 1st but battled back to lose 6-4 anyway. After grabbing the tb 2nd set which they really should've lost, they 'lost' the 3rd 6-0. Trouble was clearly evident.

Good question. Why play the Doubles at all? She was fine in the first 2 sets of the Doubles... She could have taken out Pova in 2 sets.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl# Problem became obvious in that 3rd set. She couldn't serve. Just pushing the balls in the box. I thought something was wrong. I didn't like what I was watching.#ed_op#/div#ed_cl##ed_op#div#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#/div#ed_cl#"Tennis Channel played video evidence. She was serving 80 mph, 70 mph on second serves, and she handed off her bag to Patrick at the end of the match. "

To test it, that's why. Doubles is like practice for them.

I'm guessing your 'friend' does not exist.
