SERENA'S official Return
Serena picks Indian Wells for tourney return After a 14-month break for the birth of her first child, Serena Williams will return to tournament play at the BNP Paribas Open at California's Indian Wells Tennis Garden in March.
Re:SERENA'S official ReturnIs she getting a WC? PR? Imagine Serena looming in your first round match. Halep-Serena R1? Where is Vika Azarenka? It's getting ridiculous at this point. Hurry up and settle the case. You belong on the tennis court, winning titles. We're waiting for you and Leo. She is playing Fed Cup.. or does that not count? @ Ace2Ace: Does she have to play or just be on the team to qualify for Oly? Does she even qualify to play singles on this team? Venus, Coco and even Sloanie are ranked higher. Last edited by Grossefavourite on Jan Thu 25, 2018 11:41 am, edited 1 time in total.
Sloane was miserable at the last Fed Cup. Why would she be selected again? At least replace her with Lauren Davis or Sasha Vickery. Last edited by Ace2Ace on Jan Thu 25, 2018 11:49 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re:SERENA'S official Return@Grossefavourite Serena does not have to play a Fed Cup match for it to count towards her olympic qualification. The rule is that they must be on the team, or make themselves available play for it to count towards qualification. Also, I wouldn't imagine Kathy selecting the Williams Sisters, Coco, and Sloane for one team. That seems pointless. 4 amazing singles players, who all want to play singles. They can't all play singles, unless they each play one match. The best option would be to add Shelby Rogers to the team, given how well her and Coco played as a doubles combo in the final, and that they lack their No. 1 doubles specialist, BMS. Other good options are Davis, Brady (who just made quarters in doubles at AO), or Riske. Hell, let a young player like CiCi Bellis experience the team. Personally, I would've saved the Williams Sisters to play in the semis or finals, I don't think they're needed against Netherlands LOL Last edited by 93tennisroyalty on Jan Thu 25, 2018 2:25 pm, edited 1 time in total. If I were her coach, we'd skip Indian Wells. I don't like the vibes there. Sisters boycotted the place for years. Playing there now seems odd to me. I just can't get over it. I'd leave it Halep, Coco, Julia, Ostapenko or Mertens. Last edited by Ace2Ace on Jan Thu 25, 2018 3:00 pm, edited 1 time in total. |
