Bottom half of the draw for the Ladies begins tomorrow evening here in the States (6 p.m. Midwest), top half of the men's draw. The AO has changed it's format for the schedules, each match is formed in a box (don't like it). However, if the boxed format contains the sets with a stats link to the matches, then that's fine. If not, the new format reeks. Attached is the schedule for Day 1:

https://ausopen.com/schedules

Matches of Interest for me:

lst up is Taylor v Ribby, tho' it conflicts with Petra M's match with VanU' and Ostapenko's match with Schi'. Really wanted to watch in toto Taylor's, Petra M's and Jello's matches.

Followed by Venus v Belinda B.
Cibby's match with Kanepi has upset written all over it and it is the 2nd match on Show Ct. 2, conflicting with Venus' match with BB. (sigh)...

The Dog (Dolgopolov) v Haider-Mauer....just enjoy watching the Dog regardless of who he plays. Yet, he's lst up on Ct. 19 conflicting with Taylor's, Petra M's and Ostapenko's matches.

Prepared to watch tennis 'til 1 a.m. this year. No more matches beyond this time, unless Petra K. and/or Naomi are playing semis and/or finals. Yet, clearly disappointed that for 7 hrs of allotted time, matches conflict by scheduling like it does for tomorrow. Hopefully, when the top half of the women's draw plays there won't be conflicting matches by schedule, for the top quarter of the draw for the ladies has practically all of my faves in such.

Thanks for the info.
Wozz in trouble. But I think she'll find a way to prevail

Why is Wozz in trouble? She seems to have a good draw.

@ Miss_Vee:
Buzarnescu has the tools to stun Wozz. Will she do it? maybe not. But she is very capable of taking Wozz out.
If Wozz is losing, watch for MTO and bathroom breaks. She'll do anything to mentally destabilize this woman. Smile Smile
And Buzarnescu is known for going off the rail on bad calls. All the ref has to say is "Replay the point". If Buzarnescu is convinced she won that point, that's the end of her match. She'll take herself out of the game mentally... and lose the match.

Off topic:

Just watched the finish of the Viking/Saints game. What was the safety for the Saints "thinking about" to make a play that gave up game points for the Vikings? I'd clearly like to know....

Back to tennis....

Bad day at the office for stateside players.....Venus, Coco, Sloane, Taylor and CC Bellis. All are on their way to the airport for their next event, unless they're playing doubles....

Nice wins for my girls Petra M., Mona and Jello.

Kanepi with the upset over Cibby.

Just woke up to see two of my 97ers reaching R2: Bencic and Ostapenko 😀😀.

Nice recovery by David Ferrer from 2-5 in the 4th set to win in the breaker and send the match into the 5th against Rublev. David's one of greatest competitors the men's game has seen........relentless. Not going to see the finish, tho'...heading off to dreamland.

Bad luck for Americans on day one. All but one (Ryan Harrison) have lost:
Venus, Coco, Sloane, Cici, Alison Riske, Jen Brady, John Isner, Taylor Townsend, and Kenin.

Jack Sock is on his way out, King likely to lose to Tsonga, and Falconi likely to lose to Gavrilova.

McDonald and Gibbs TBD

On the bright side, the US might have the greatest number of women in the draw at 18

Watched a 10 min highlight from Bencic vs Venus...

Mixed feelings after seeing that...
Positive note: end to the myth that Bencic has no power: she went toe-to-toe with Venus is that department.
Negative note: Where is the variation? The game that kept me interested? Not a single dropshot, not a single slice... At tennisforum, someone started a thread that Bencic was the new Azarenka, and before seeing the highlight I though that this person had lost the plot. But he was right: there was quite a bit of Azarenka-play in this match. Hard strokes fro mthe baseline, redirecting the points all the time, etc... imo, both Venus and Bencic played the same way.

So I hope that Bencic played like this because that was the best strategy to beat Venus for her. But if all her matches are like this, I am not sure if she will remain my #1 favorite... she might drop back to position 4-5....
