go firmly to the window
and listen with deep emotion,
but not with the whining, the pleas of the coward;
listen-your final pleasure-to the voices,
to the exquisite music of that strange procession

SINGAPORE

RED

Simona Halep
Elina Svitolina
Caroline Wozniacki
Caroline Garcia
<br

WHITE
Garbine Muguruza
Karolina Pliskova
Venus Williams
Jelena Ostapenko

The highlight of White Group action will be a rematch of the Wimbledon final between Muguruza and Williams, won by the Spaniard 7-5, 6-0 in July.

Ostapenko will look to score her first career wins over both Williams and Pliskova, against whom she is a combined 0-3, having beaten Muguruza earlier this month at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open.

In the Red Group, Svitolina and Wozniacki will face off in a rematch of the Rogers Cup final from Toronto, won by Svitolina, the third of a historic haul of Premier 5 titles won by the Ukrainian this season.

Halep and Garcia will face off for the second time in three weeks after the Frenchwoman won the China Open title over the World No.1 in Beijing.

The first slate of round robin matches are set to get underway on Sunday night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The first match of this year's tournament following Sunday's opening ceremony will see Pliskova take on Williams, not before 5 p.m. local time, followed by Muguruza against Ostapenko.

Monday's opening action from the Red Group will begin at 7:30 p.m. local time with Halep taking on Garcia, followed by Svitolina against Wozniacki.

Completely lopsided grouping. What's the point?

The worse matchup in the White group is more interesting than the best matchup in the Red group.

I like the groups: matches will be different within the groups, and then the SF will mix both styles...

Very hard to pick the four names that will advance into the SF.

I would say Halep, Svitolina, Venus and Ostapenko.
