Couldn't hold....tiebreak. Looked nervous, in addition her lst serve is not clicking today, hardly any free points off such.

3rd set!!! Don't believe it. Came back from a 2-5 deficit to finish. This girl's competitiveness is strong.

However, hate that this match is on at the same time as Naomi's. Can't stand flipping back and forth.....

Viktoria loses the 3rd. Should have finished up 4-1 on serve, but credit to Kristen who came back playing solid tennis. Good experience for this young talent, where there will be many more semis and finals on this Tour in her career.

Kuzmova did a few things right:#ed_op#br#ed_cl#1/ she had no problem with Flipkens' slices and spins. She responded very well to those and had her own slices and spins. I thought those would torture her but nope, she had no problem with them.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#2/ She did put up a great fight to brilliantly saved all the match points in that 2nd set. Those winners were gutsy.!!!! But that was it.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#The rest of the match, she was Giorgi. She must have missed over 75% of the returns for a mere 3 or 4 ROS winners. That's just too wild. You got to play those routine serves. There was no reason to hit them all over the park.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Then the routine unforced errors. long. wide. in the net.. too many to count. .... she was just spraying and spraying and spraying. That's how she lost the match. Some of DF were plain stupid. Why do you try to hit the "T" or the line on a 2nd serve? hit it big if you want to; but hit in the center of the service box. No need to target the corners or the lines.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Flipkens 2nd serves were very short but Kuzmo kept waiting for them behind the baseline... and most of the time, she couldn't get to them. An adjustment would have been to move deep inside the baseline and return them away from Flipkens. It's not like they were heavy. So why stay so far?#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#It was a very bad tactical performance.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#In the last set, she was not spraying the groundies and the serve until she went up 4-1, 4-2.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#Then she started DFaulting and spraying again.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#She did give herself chances to win this match despite the slew of wild shots.#ed_op#br#ed_cl##ed_op#br#ed_cl#Flipkens' net game is just awesome. Some of the volleys were just simply outstanding.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#Congratulation!!!!

Indeed the lack of execution, offset tho' by some great defense by Kirsten and net play, enabled her to comeback and finish the match. Further, Viktoria's lst serve did little damage in this match. Up 4-1 "on serve" in the 3rd is a win for her, as I've seen on the ITF circuit, where she has 13 titles, knowing how to win. So, it was unexpected that she wouldn't finish, but giving her credit for recovering in the 2nd and the breaker to send it into a 3rd set. Viktoria has competitive fire and doesn't give one the sense that she'll fold like a Barthel, for one, when a match is tight. She hung in there in the lst 2 sets with Kirsten really in control for the most part. She'll learn to finish on the Tour when she's decidedly ahead on serve with that lead in the 3rd.....

I see that she's in qualfying for Mallorca (so is Lottner), playing tomorrow. After a loss like this where, if she had won, she would clearly dismiss Krunic for the title, has to play on her mind to the point that I wouldn't be surprised that she would falter. Then, attempt to play qualies at Eastbourne ere Wimby. Yet, we'll see.....
