Bencic somehow won her R2.
Lost the first set 6-1, recovered in the second, but when she was 3-0 down in the third, it looked like end of the line (in this event, and for the YEC - she needs to win Moscow in order to get into the YEC).
But she won 6 of the last 7 games, and now has a day of rest before playing her QF.

Bertens out, but it makes no real difference for Bencic: she always needed to get into the final to make a chance for the YEC. Now it is Mladenovic who awaits in the SF, and not Bertens.

A final is enough to get into the YEC if Serena withdraws.
And winning Moscow is always top8 for Bencic.

Match vs Flipkens just started. If she cannot beat Flipkens, then she does not deserve to be in the YEC...

What a nerve-wrecking first set...

Belinda started ugly, 1-4 down, but then had some great games, several love games, and served for the set at 6-5.
Then it turned ugly with some horrible misses... TB was the logical consequence, and again with some great ponits she took a 5-2 lead in the TB. Then it turned ugly again with Flipkens having SPs at 6-5 and 8-7...
Then some great rallies with great winners, and Bencic winning 10-8... pfew

I hope that Set 2 will be easier.

Some of her misses at the net (the overhead volley) where unacceptable. If I were Flikpens, I'd give her a lot of those

Two love games in a row, and a very easy 3-0 lead for Belinda in Set#2... Could be over soon now if sjhe keeps it up. No more stupid UE's please!

I would like to see BB at the YEC, hopefully she won't be too drained.

This year they are smart enough to put Zhuhai first. So if Belinda wins tomorrow and qualifies, she will have a week of rest.

If she plays like that second set, she should win tomorrow. Mladenovic had three 3-setters already, whereas Bencic had a R1-bye, a 3-setter, but then a day of rest (and a 2-set win today)... In theory, Belinda has an advantage here.

Belinda winning here and Rybakina in Luxemburg would be a great last week of the regular WTA-season...
And the next year Belinda consolidating the top10, and Rybakina getting there (so far, Rybakina remains under the radar of many tennis followers - I guess Kazachstan is not a popular country to follow :-) )
