SAFINA: Russian Tennis Post-Meldonium

Post by Grossefavourite » Aug Fri 16, 2019 11:29 am

On the women's Russian tennis, Safina concluded: "It's a very sad time. I do not even know how to call it. Daria Kasatkina was higher but now she is not playing that good. Hopefully she and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova come back to their previous shape and get closer to the top 20 or, if luck wants, to the top ten, but their level is much higher than what their rankings positions says now."

"The interest for tennis decreased a lot. People only go seeing some players. But if you ask people, most of them do not know who Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka are, and they are the world No. 1 and 2. But everybody remembers Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. Maybe now there are not so many big names. Or Sharapova and Williams still attract a lot, or the marketing is small." Safina added: "From one side it seems that players became a bit arrogant.

A good coach always wants the 100 percent from their player and many players are not ready to give their best. Because they want to focus on their personal life, check Instagram. Also, many coaches sit being far away from players and that's not good."
