Men's match lasted 5 hours, the women's just 1. Either the women join the men in best of 5 or the men should scale back to best of 3. As it is, it just relegates the women to a warmup act.

"Epic match"..... Congrats to Novak on his title. Roger was incredible at age 38 next month to compete so effectively, blazing trails for past-their-prime players. Had his chance in the 5th when he broke Novak to serve for the title but couldn't hold, Novak recovering from 15-40 to tie. What can one say....

The men's Big Three brought some fabulous match play at this year's Wimby. Watched incredible matches that will go down in tennis history as the best ever played, coupled with that 2008 final between Roger and Rafa.

Wanted Roger to win this w/o question. Yet, Novak takes home the trophy, providing good theatre for the viewing public in what sports competition in this fashion is all about. Worth the 5 hours.....

Novak was just mentally tougher which I don't think is due to an age difference.
No, I don't think so, for Roger had the break in the 5th, up 40-15 on serve, serving for the title and the way he was serving should have finished the match. Didn't have anything to do with mental toughness, save for executing his normal game, for his serve was potent with 25 aces, at age 38 next month is still more than effective. But, Novak recovered played quality service games to tie. Just competition. Hard to break down this match for the twists and turns were many.

In addition, both players had nerves in the 5th, both broken and having shaky service games. The level of competition brought out the best in each other, but Roger definitely had his chance to win the title on his racquet. He just didn't....

The women don't have the quality of player to play 5 set matches like this. Can't say they never had it, but, currently, this level of play and player is not in the women's game. Yet, to complement Serena, if the Belgians had continued, Azarenka didn't get pregnant in her prime, Petra K stepped up but hasn't and Venus didn't get sick, then it could have been possible. Not today, exemplified by the lack of quality play in the women's semis and final here at Wimby.
