Djokovic gives colleagues heads up
According to a report in Marca Monday morning, Player Council president Novak Djokovic gave his top-100 colleagues a headsup on their WhatsApp chat that the cancellation of Madrid was imminent.

The implications of the cancellation are significant – both on the quarantine side, and on how the cancellation might affect some players’ plans for the US Open.

According to Marca, negotiations had been successful with the Spanish government that players could travel from New York back to Spain, and not be subject to a 14-day quarantine.

An agreement with the Italian government – which now, in theory, will hold the first “clay-court” tournament the following week in Rome – is not yet nailed down.

There is another clay-court tournament, in Kitzbuhel, Austria, to be held the second week of the US Open. But it won’t draw a significant field, and therefore is less of a key to the overall return.

To that end, Marca also is reporting that the ATP is thinking of pushing Kitzbuhel back a week, to fit into the Madrid slot.

Nice match between Petra M and Samsonova. A 3-setter ere a decent crowd, a crowd purposely limited, Petra prevailing. Due to virus considerations match-ending protocol is touching of racquets and no Chair handshake. Next match for Petra is Sasnovich, who apparently expressed in her on-court presser after her win that she's quite confident she'll handle whomever prevailed, Petra smiling at the account.

Well, Palermo (outdoors) just finished w/o a player contracting the virus, the TD and organizers of Rome taking note, both ATP and WTA players, as well. However, it may not occur due to financial considerations, especially if seating is restricted, the tourney taking a significant financial hit, as the USO will, as they are projected to lose 80% of revenue.

There is still the final to be played :-)

Changed my prediction - need to try to win at least one WTA-event in 2020.

I was not too active this week - blame it on the weather....

Interesting weather fact (for global warming deniers).

From 1850 until 1990, there was on average a heat wave every 4 years in Belgium.... so two per decennium.
Then it started to go up to once every two years.
And now:

2015: 1 heatwave
2016: 1 heatwave
2017: 1 heatwave
2018: 2 heatwaves
2019: 3 heatwaves (and the max temperature ever in Belgium over 40°C)
2020: officially since today a first heatwave (we missed one in june by one day that is was a bit too cool).

This one is also quite a bad one, in the sense that we now have a 3rd day in a row > 95°F (or 35°C), and it won't end there: monday, Tuesday, wednesday are going to be >97°F... And at the moment the heatwave is expected to last for another week after that.

Her second title as she won one last year.

Solid game with power and finesse :)
