I can understand why she did it, but still... one can lose the whole clay season if a badly-managed injury gets worse by overplaying. And at her age, it would be her first decent clay-season at this level. imo more important than Miami (after winning IW).

I am simply being critical because a fit Andreescu will be a valuable addition to a great group of youngsters.

Well deserved break for a young warrior.
See in you Rome. I want another mach against Kerber. :)
She should have taken her break after IW; she could have started to get experience on clay in somewhat "smaller" events without being injured (Charleston, Stuttgart).

Learning on how to make a good schedule is also part of the learning process... and knowing when to take off a week when needed (and the event that you skip does not matter - top players make such choices all the time)

Grav,

Miami is mandatory ~ She'd have to pull out due to injury. Is that what you're proposing??

Venus gave it her all, but Simona was just too consistent. Vee would hit a great winner, then UFE; winner, UFE; repeat. Ugh!!

I don't watch Venus' matches anymore. Some of the UEs are like a punch in the heart. Can't handle it.
Now there is no American left in the last 8. Pretty sad.

Only 2 players out of the 8 have won slams. 5 of the rest have never made it to a slam final. That's pathetic.
There are no top players anymore.

Hsieh vs [13] [21] Kontaveit
[3] Kvitova vs [12] Barty

---------- Bottom Half --------

[5] Ka. Pliskova vs. Vondrousova
[18] Q. Wang vs. [2] Halep

First Miami Finalists .. First time winner.
Good luck to the ladies !!!

Now to my girl.
Halep, show them who's got the down-the-line backhand winners. Show me the ITF Halep, the one that was knocking out all those tall girls. :) :) Bring out the attacking Halep, not the one that stand miles behind the baseline..
Let's do this!!!

if Hale and Kvitova reach the Final, they will be the new #1 and #2.
And whoever wins will be the #1.
Very interesting.
A great opportunity for Kvitova to finally get to WTA #1. She's got to win all her remaining matches.

Lady Yafan Wang lost. She was the better player of the 2. A few bad unforced errors did her in. I like her power game. She looks like a hard worker, unlike lady Aiava( who announced she is showing up in Charleston).
Keep working hard, Miss Yafan; it will pay off !!!

Kvitty lost, so Halep will be #1.

not yet.. Halep has to make the Final, otherwise, Naomi still reigns supreme.
