It's gonna be a nice YEC2019

Post by Graveller » Oct Mon 21, 2019 5:11 am

An early thread - I know - but looking forward to next week.

For me, there is only one finalist that is not that appealing to me: Pliskova. But she definitely deserved to be here. And she has a type of game that is rather different than that of the 7 others.

With players like Barty, Osaka, Bencic and Andreescu, we have 50% of the field filled with young players that many of us expected to be here a few years ago (maybe not so much Andreescu for me as she was under my radar - sometimes we fail to spot a talented youngster).

Kvitova at her best is a pleasure to watch - my problem with her is that she only is at her best for 30-40% of the season.
Svitolina has been on team Graveller for 5-6 years, so no complaining here, and so was Halep (even longer) as I love her clay-game.

Looking forward to the groups. A group with the 4 "young" players is actually a possibility!

Totally agree! The YEC for the women and the men are pretty exciting. Can't wait for both. Although ... west coast TV viewing for both tournaments will be a killer. Too damn late ;_;

Just nice. Serena should've made an effort after USO to qualify and then it would be exciting to see her challenge her top rivals for AO20 back to back over a short period of time. Every match with Serena is a potential final in AO20. Oh, well... As it is, the only match I'm interested in is Naomi/Bianca. A Belinda/Bianca revenge match has some potential given how unimpressed Belinda was with Bianca at the USO.

Naomi got this in the bag.
But Andreescu needs to take off that Romanian gypsy bracelet. :) :)

Hmm, since the AO, Naomi has a 2:3 W:L record against her YEC-opponents:
two straight set losses vs Bencic
a 3-set loss vs Bencic
two 3-set wins (vs Barty and Andreescu)
(She won vs Pliskova, Svitolina and Kvitova at the AO)

So it i not like she has had a lot of matches against the top10 in the last 7-8 months...
For me, this is a very open event, with no front-runners, and with all participants as potential winner (apart from Pliskova, they all won a slam and/or won the YEC).

All that H2H doesn't matter. Most happened when Osaka was searching for her soul after splitting with Guru Sasha Bajin. The Haitian Voodoo Queen will destroy the competition. Only the Romanian Gypsy Witch could give her a bit of trouble. The rest are no competition in crunch time.
Let's go for the biggest Demolition Derby in empty stadiums, Fraulein Naomi.

That whatever Trophy should be banned. It cheapens the YEC.
You either qualify for the YEC or you don't. There shouldn't be something on the side, giving away free points.
I want to hate that Canadian Tracy woman who made all this mess. But I am immunized against hating. :( ... Blame the nurse.
