WTA Stuttgart & Istanbul

Post by Graveller » Apr Tue 23, 2019 7:54 am

Halep withdrew from Stuttgart due to hip-issues (and a mental post-FedCup hangover).

Good news for Kasatkina: she just won her R1, and instead of potentially facing Kerber in R2, she now gets the winner of Vekic vs LL Gatto. Kerber moved to Halep's spot.
Muguruza also withdrew.

And in Istanbul, we see Rybakina again (it was about time). Due to her low ranking, she was absent on WTA level, but now she is into the MD, and opened with a win vs Seed#7 Siniakova. And won against Babos in the qualies.

I wonder if she can live up to her potential and start producing results. Still a teenager for a few months, and currently a Career High Ranking at #139 (in the live rankings).

ps: no fmKO for Halep as she withdrew before the start of the first MD match.
But no one picked her as fmKO, so it does not really matter.

I can't stand this Fed Cup thing. I find it boring.

Who is Rybakina? Never seen her play? another pusher, or an Ace2Ace-type of player?

Nope, unfortunately not Belgian: she is playing for Kazachstan... I gave some comments on her when she was 18 (now almost 20) and decided she was worth following.

I think that she is more your cup of tea too, Ace :-)... At least, that was my opinion of more than a year ago...

I hope that it gets better: Vekic vs Kasatkina *3-0 in the first....

2019 was poor so far, but if Darya starts to play like this on clay, I suggest that she does a "Barty"; go play cricket for a year or two and then come back with renewed energy/motivation. Or stay away...

Match not over yet, but no high hopes for this one.
